The difference between plastic and compostable bags

Plastic bags and compostable bags are both commonly used for carrying groceries, pet waste and other items, but there is a significant difference between the two.

Plastic bags are made from synthetic polymers, which are non-biodegradable and can persist in the environment for hundreds of years. They pose a serious threat to wildlife, as they can choke and suffocate animals that mistake them for food or become entangled in them. Additionally, plastic bags can take years to break down in landfills and release harmful chemicals into the environment as they do so.

On the other hand, compostable bags are made from biodegradable materials such as plant-based polymers and starch. These bags are designed to break down much faster than plastic bags, typically within six months to a year in when exposed to the elements. This means they don't persist in the environment and don't contribute to the plastic waste problem.

It's important to note that while compostable bags are a step in the right direction, they are not a silver bullet solution. They still need to be properly disposed of in a commercial or home composting facility that produces the proper elements to fully breakdown. Our compostable waste bags are TUV certified for home and industrial composting which means they are of the highest grade and quality.

Another factor to consider is the cost. Compostable bags tend to be more expensive than plastic bags, which can be a barrier for some consumers. However, it's worth remembering that the cost of cleaning up plastic waste and mitigating its impact on the environment is much greater in the long run.

In conclusion, compostable bags are a better choice for the environment than plastic bags, as they break down much faster and don't pose a threat to wildlife. However, they still require proper disposal and can be more expensive. Nevertheless, making the switch to compostable bags is a step towards reducing the amount of plastic waste in the environment and helping to protect the planet for future generations.
